The secondment of Dr. Lars Matthäus took place from June 1st until June 30th 2015 from eemagine Medical Imaging Solutions GmbH (Industry, Berlin, Germany) to Technische Universität Ilmenau (Academia, Ilmenau, Germany).
During his secondment, Lars Matthäus was joined by Dr. Frank Zanow (eemagine Medical Imaging Solutions GmbH).
The main work done by Lars Matthäus during his secondment was on tasks of work package 2 (2.2, 2.3, 2.4) and work package 3 (3.1, 3.4) as well as work package 4 (4.1, 4.3, 4.4). The latest electrode and cap prototypes – manufactured in cooperation by UPorto, TUIL and EEM, have been tested in great detail at TUIL. Dr. Matthäus also contributed to a study regarding electrode adduction and substrate flexibility. Different interfacing techniques and materials have been assessed using Rapid Prototyping at TUIL. Dr. Matthäus investigated also the manufacturability of the materials used in more detail in order to assess the hurdles in future production. Single-electrode and multichannel prototypes have been combined with standard EEG hard- and software in order to test interfacing and software requirements prior to implementation of technology-specific alterations. Different test situations (resting, sitting, relaxing, evoked potentials, artifact induced) have been simulated by Dr. Matthäus during EEG acquisition tests.
Dr. Matthäus contributed to the works at TUIL with extensive knowledge about quality assurance, manufacturing, and software design. He also contributed with customer-oriented and production-specific considerations and requirements in all work package tasks.
